Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Throughout our school community, we champion responsive and targeted neurological interventions designed to help our young people thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our trauma-informed strategies are embedded to reduce student anxiety and enhance attentiveness. This supports students’ ability to engage fully with learning, reflected in consistently high levels of participation.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
Our trauma-informed approach to education has student wellbeing at its core.
Our staff understand the neurobiology of complex trauma, and support each student's learning and wellbeing through The Bidgee School Wellbeing Frame of Reference.
Our approach to teaching and supporting wellbeing is embedded, explicit and evidence-based.
Our daily practices include:
- Promoting and recognising our school values, which are effort, growth and kindness
- Practices to support emotional regulation
- Daily check-ins and actively meeting student needs
- Reflection (including window of tolerance, gratefulness and individual goals)
- Movement (including engine room, fitness, connecting body and brain)
- Mindfulness
- Positive primers
- Brain breaks (planned learning activities to mobilise different networks of the brain)
